Sharmila's Rituals Continue in Manipur

March 8, Imphal: Irom Chanu Sharmila has been released from the JN Hospital this evening, following the completion of a year when she was re-arrested last year. Hard to digest, but it has become a ritual for the Iron Lady during the last ten years. She admitted that the formality is becoming a shame, though she is determine to carry on with her struggle. And the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 continues to take the flak, though the government is having no say in the issue, refusing to come clean.

The theatre of the absurd continues, and Irom Sharmila, unfortunately, is the tragedy queen. The solidarity action of this woman will be treasured in the history of the land, whilst her bold resistance would invite the government to put her in detention again.
