Drift Away

Do all the people you love in this life,

All the people you cherish through strife,

All the people you want and need,

Have to be near, your heart to feed?

Near as in space, a tangible tie,

It’s been so long, so long gone by,

So many faces, so many days,

Stretching through time in endless haze.

I don’t know what to make of this maze,

Of people, their questions, their puzzling ways.

I don’t know what to say or do,

With futile words that feel untrue.

Drift away, drift away slow,

Like rivers to seas, where none can know.

And all of us, in time, will fade,

Hopefully, gently, in peace, we’ll wade,

Into some fine day, where dreams are laid.
